If i fill my jet with low SG kerosene by volume, instead of high SG, why will my range reduce?

If I fill a jet aircraft's fuel tanks with low specific gravity fuel, measuring by volume, why will I have less range than if I filled the tanks with high specific gravity fuel, measuring by volume?
